Incredibles 3 Plot Speculation

ree

D23 has been going on this weekend, where a bunch of new information has been released about upcoming Disney movies. As of writing this blog, nothing has been released yet for "Incredibles 3" other than the logo and release year (2028).

So, here are my thoughts on what I hope will happen in "Incredibles 3."

First off, I was fairly disappointed in "Incredibles 2." The first movie was amazing, and to this day is still one of my favorite Pixar movies. So after making us wait over ten years for a sequel, I was bummed there was no time jump like with Toy Story 3, and that it was essentially the same plot, but swapping Mr. Incredible with Elastigirl and having a much less interesting villain.

How could they remedy this with "Incredibles 3"? Right off the bat: time jump. A time jump needs to happen. There's only so much they can do with a baby Jack Jack, juvenile Dash, and teenage Violet.

So my approach? Add an 8-year time jump. Mr. and Mrs. Incredible are likely pushing 50, and all those years of putting themselves in danger and wearing themselves down have led them to want to hang up the suits and enjoy life more together. So they go off on a retirement vacation together, leaving the kids behind.

Violet is in college, perhaps pursuing the sciences to better understand her powers and be able to help other supers. Dash is a senior in high school, preparing for college and trying to get an athletic scholarship. And Jack Jack is an older kid, whose powers have manifested in shapeshifting, which he uses to get into all sorts of trouble, just like his older brother used to do.

Now that the setting is clear, let's dive into the plot summary. With their parents retired, the kids all feel capable enough to stop crime on their own without their parents' help. That is, until a villain arises that they can't defeat. Even when teamed up with Frozone and all the supers from "Incredibles 2," they still aren't strong enough. Things are looking ugly, and there's only one person they can think of who is smart enough to take down this ultimate threat.

Syndrome.

But Syndrome is dead, so what can they do? Dash has an idea, and it's a fun nod to DC Comics. If he runs fast enough, he can potentially travel backward through time. We could even call it, I don't know, Dashpoint.

So Dash does it, he runs back in time and saves Syndrome from getting his cape caught in the jet, then returns to the present with him. Violet prepared ahead of time with a special chamber to contain him, and they eventually convince him to help them.

DUH DUH DUH... time travel shenanigans begin.

Who knows what direction they will go with this movie, but I think this would be a cool approach. Violet and Jack Jack have often gotten more of the spotlight, leaving Dash as the awkward middle child. This would be a great way to give him time to shine and save the day.
